Jeff Kravitz/Getty Images via ABCCeline Dion has collected countless awards in her career, but yesterday, she was back home in Montreal to pick up a trophy on behalf of Rene Angelil, her late husband, who passed away earlier this year.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the award, handed out at the ADISQ Gala — the annual Quebec Music Awards — was an honorary one, for Angelil’s work in the industry.  Celine told the crowd that Rene, who died in January, was  “not only one of the greatest visionaries of the Quebec music industry,” but “also one of the biggest fans of musical artists that ever existed.”

She added, “He had an immense respect for people who had that passion.… René always thought of others before he thought of himself.”

Backstage, Celine told reporters, “Of course it was a great honor for me to receive trophies over the years, but to be here to receive a trophy that’s not for me, that’s even more touching.”

Of Rene, she said, “He’s not physically present, but I’m sure he’s here tonight. I don’t think he missed any of this, and I’m sure he’s very proud.”
