Not many people can say that they got honor someone they’ve admired since they were in diapers…literally. Katy Perry, though, can now make that claim.
Katy helped welcome Minnie Mouse to the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, as the legendary mouse received her star, located in front of the El Capital Theater. Shockingly, the honor came 40 years after Mickey Mouse received his, an oversight which Katy pointed out in her speech.
Addressing the crowd, Katy described just how far back she and Minnie go. “Let me set the scene,” she began. “Pastel walls, the scent of baby powder in the air. I was maybe two or three years old. And into my peripheral vision came Minnie and Mickey Mouse-printed diapers!”
“That was my very first memory ever,” the American Idol judge continued. “And of course it turned into a lifelong devotion…it’s something that has been a thread through my entire life, and rarely does a year goes by without us reuniting in one of her many magical castles.”
Calling Minnie an “icon,” Katy — who was wearing a red polka dot skirt and top and a huge floppy red hat with white polka dots — also gave the Disney star props for her fashion sense.
“Her style is the epitome of fun fashion,” noted Katy. “To this day, no one rocks a bow, the color red or a dot quite like her. Trust me, I’m trying!”
She finished by noting, “So today, a brief 40 years after Mickey got his star, I’m delighted to honor Minnie and her magic with hers.”
